Hiking
Our own 18 miles of trails - easy strolls rising to really tough uphill to 3200 feet - not Old Rag but tough enough to kick a butt or three. It's one of our own two mountains. This one is "Doubletop", the other one - lower - is, of course, Graves Mountain.
Up the classic Shenandoah National Park hikes - Old Rag and White Oak Canyon - both just up our back hollow road - 7 miles.
Fly Fishing
Three mountain streams - two here on the farm and the Rapidan a short drive. Two streams are stocked and natives are higher up. On your own or with a guide.
Pond Fishing
Two ponds. One with bass and catfish, one with stocked trout - seasonal.
Fly Fishing Guided
Learning with one of our guides. He will start you off with a Fly Rod or hone the skills you want to have - like mountain stream fishing for wily natives.

Trail Rides - 1 hour to all day. Through orchards, meadows, woods and up our mountains

Dogwood is set in our tiny hamlet of Syria, on the "main street", with the river, our Doubletop Mountain and main restaurant lodge across the street and up the hill. Our 1100 acre Farm surrounds most of our hamlet.
The cottage, built for a farmer in the 1930s has a front porch with rockers - facing the "main street".
The living-dining area is large - split in two by the central stairs going up to two of the three bedrooms. There is a brick fireplace at the west end.
The kitchen is good size and well equipped.
Bedroom 1 is on the ground floor with one king bed and bathroom
Bedrooms 2 and 3 are on the second floor, one with two queens and the other with one queen and one twin. There is a shared full bathroom.
Charcoal grill and fire circle are out back.
Sorry, no pets allowed.
Where on the Farm
On the main street below the Main Lodge and Restaurant - a short walk or drive. Rose river is near - across the street, while Market is 150 yaers one way and the Farm-yard and stables are 400 yards the other way.

Little Critters Notice
– we are a Farm with a living meadow in front & forest around
The meadow comes up to the door, so you will have bugs, toads, frogs come to visit, while bear and deer may stroll by in the early morning. We do not use pesticides in our outside the rooms.

Hiking
Our own 18 miles of trails - easy strolls rising to really tough uphill to 3200 feet - not Old Rag but tough enough to kick a butt or three. It's one of our own two mountains. This one is "Doubletop", the other one - lower - is, of course, Graves Mountain.
Up the classic Shenandoah National Park hikes - Old Rag and White Oak Canyon - both just up our back hollow road - 7 miles.
Fly Fishing
Three mountain streams - two here on the farm and the Rapidan a short drive. Two streams are stocked and natives are higher up. On your own or with a guide.
Pond Fishing
Two ponds. One with bass and catfish, one with stocked trout - seasonal.
Fly Fishing Guided
Learning with one of our guides. He will start you off with a Fly Rod or hone the skills you want to have - like mountain stream fishing for wily natives.
Horse Riding
Trail Rides - 1 hour to all day. Through orchards, meadows, woods and up our mountains
Lessons with Eddie and Leah - from "Get to Know the Horse" to high level communication.
Overnight Camping Trail Ride - Long day in the saddle winds up at Rapidan camping area with feast from the cam-fire, tents set up for you, sleeping bags ready, then trail ride breakfast, pack-up and the trails back to the Farm.

Turn by Turns as set up by the "Tour de Madison", our local road bike challenge in mid-May.
Super challenges to get you ready for a Tour e France if not the Rockies' Triple By-pass. On little traveled roads, you will hear the cars coming, on no verge roads. Here we have bye ways up down and around, up down and around, back down and back-around.

Long pulls up non-technical double tracks to above us - to the top of the Blue Ridge.

This large condo is the main floor of a three condo house set in a meadow, surrounded by forest on two sides and meadow on the other two. Small "creek-let" runs by trees.

The meadow comes right up to your room, so please expect that bugs, butterflies, toads, and caterpillars will find you as well as a bear or deer that might amble by. Our world is about growing a resilient environment so we try to use as few pesticides as we can.

Hiking
Our own 18 miles of trails - easy strolls rising to really tough uphill to 3200 feet - not Old Rag but tough enough to kick a butt or three. It's one of our own two mountains. This one is "Doubletop", the other one - lower - is, of course, Graves Mountain.
Up the classic Shenandoah National Park hikes - Old Rag and White Oak Canyon - both just up our back hollow road - 7 miles.
Fly Fishing
Three mountain streams - two here on the farm and the Rapidan a short drive. Two streams are stocked and natives are higher up. On your own or with a guide.
Pond Fishing
Two ponds. One with bass and catfish, one with stocked trout - seasonal.
Fly Fishing Guided
Learning with one of our guides. He will start you off with a Fly Rod or hone the skills you want to have - like mountain stream fishing for wily natives.
Horse Riding
Trail Rides - 1 hour to all day. Through orchards, meadows, woods and up our mountains
Lessons with Eddie and Leah - from "Get to Know the Horse" to high level communication.
Overnight Camping Trail Ride - Long day in the saddle winds up at Rapidan camping area with feast from the cam-fire, tents set up for you, sleeping bags ready, then trail ride breakfast, pack-up and the trails back to the Farm.

Flats through the valley and up rural side turns.
Turn by Turns as set up by the "Tour de Madison", our local road bike challenge in mid-May.
Super challenges to get you ready for a Tour e France if not the Rockies' Triple By-pass. On little traveled roads, you will hear the cars coming, on no verge roads. Here we have bye ways up down and around, up down and around, back down and back-around.
Mountain Biking

Long pulls up non-technical double tracks to above us - to the top of the Blue Ridge.

This is an 1890's large white farmhouse, set in a meadow verging the Rose River, a pristine mountain trout stream, with mountain forest around the meadow. The Kite family's graveyard from the 1800's is next to Poplar Lodge on the forest side.
Furnishings are period pieces with Clore furniture and "comfortable farmhouse". The interiors are all white, so light filters into all the rooms.
Kite House is large - sleeping 11 in 5 bedrooms. It has a full kitchen and lots of space to gather round the dining table.
Needing easier access?
There is one ground floor bedroom with 1 queen and adjacent bath. For guests needing easy access, this bedroom and ground floor can be accessed by a ramp to the back porch, to which you can drive.
The front of the farm house has a three sided porch with rockers, looking out to Rose River.
Great for family reunions and large get-togethers.
Fishing folk have the stream 100 feet away - a pristine cold-water mountain trout stream tumbling over river rocks. Fine fishing when working up the mountain.
Mountain lovers have the Blue Ridge wrapped in trees and shining with hidden discovery.

It is primitive - more like a big hunting-fishing dormitory for club members than a "cute" cabin in the woods. Goldilocks would have been bouncing hard all night with 14 beds to check out.
The golden part of the Upper Cabin experience is the isolation by the river, the invitation of the forest and rushing water to pause.
The cabin has a stone terrace with fire-pit to embrace its guests.

Hiking
Our own 18 miles of trails - easy strolls rising to really tough uphill to 3200 feet - not Old Rag but tough enough to kick a butt or three. It's one of our own two mountains. This one is "Doubletop", the other one - lower - is, of course, Graves Mountain.
Up the classic Shenandoah National Park hikes - Old Rag and White Oak Canyon - both just up our back hollow road - 7 miles.
Fly Fishing
Three mountain streams - two here on the farm and the Rapidan a short drive. Two streams are stocked and natives are higher up. On your own or with a guide.
Pond Fishing
Two ponds. One with bass and catfish, one with stocked trout - seasonal.
Fly Fishing Guided
Learning with one of our guides. He will start you off with a Fly Rod or hone the skills you want to have - like mountain stream fishing for wily natives.
Horse Riding
Trail Rides - Through orchards, meadows, woods and up our mountains.
Western Lessons with Circle H Equine - from "Get to Know the Horse" to high level communication.
Overnight Camping Trail Ride - Long day in the saddle winds up at Rapidan camping area with feast from the cam-fire, tents set up for you, sleeping bags ready, then trail ride breakfast, pack-up and the trails back to the Farm.

Flats through the valley and up rural side turns.
Turn by Turns as set up by the "Tour de Madison", our local road bike challenge in mid-May.
Super challenges to get you ready for a Tour e France if not the Rockies' Triple By-pass. On little traveled roads, you will hear the cars coming, on no verge roads. Here we have bye ways up down and around, up down and around, back down and back-around.

Long pulls up non-technical double tracks to above us - to the top of the Blue Ridge.

Hiking
Our own 18 miles of trails - easy strolls rising to really tough uphill to 3200 feet - not Old Rag but tough enough to kick a butt or three. It's one of our own two mountains. This one is "Doubletop", the other one - lower - is, of course, Graves Mountain.
Up the classic Shenandoah National Park hikes - Old Rag and White Oak Canyon - both just up our back hollow road - 7 miles.
Fly Fishing
Three mountain streams - two here on the farm and the Rapidan a short drive. Two streams are stocked and natives are higher up. On your own or with a guide.
Pond Fishing
Two ponds. One with bass and catfish, one with stocked trout - seasonal.
Fly Fishing Guided
Learning with one of our guides. He will start you off with a Fly Rod or hone the skills you want to have - like mountain stream fishing for wily natives.
Horse Riding
Trail Rides - 1 hour to all day. Through orchards, meadows, woods and up our mountains.
Western Lessons with Circle H Equine - from "Get to Know the Horse" to high level communication.
Road Biking
Flats through the valley and up rural side turns.
Turn by Turns as set up by the "Tour de Madison", our local road bike challenge in mid-May.
Super challenges to get you ready for a Tour e France if not the Rockies' Triple By-pass. On little traveled roads, you will hear the cars coming, on no verge roads. Here we have bye ways up down and around, up down and around, back down and back-around.
Mountain Biking
Doodling along our dirt roads, riding along meadows, through orchards, by ponds, and streams.
Long pulls up non-technical double tracks to above us - to the top of the Blue Ridge.
Tough, technical scrambles along trails to the tops of our two mountains - strong skills needed on rough trails that are rich in rock.
Mountain Climbing

Full day - drive up to Old Stony. Minimum of four, please, or check what other groups may be booked so that you can join in and make new mates.
Cascading Down Waterfalls
- wet and slithery
- learning to rappel down the falls in White Oak Canyon. Shenandoah Mountain Guides leads and makes it not seem scary.
Full day - drive up our back hollow road to White Oak Canyon, hike to the top of the waterfalls and start to learn the tools of the slipping and sliding. Minimum of four, please. Weekdays only as too many people in the falls during weekends. We need peace to learn.

Goat play - along with wondering at the `monster pigs and non-monster self-shearing sheep.
Cattle and calves - also Longhorns in the field by the entrance to the Farm.
Horses and Ponies - trail rides and learning..
Swimming in our "swimming hole". Yes, getting wet and splashing does not not always have to be in a pool.
Spotting bears, deer, little beetle and bug critters around the cabins and lodge rooms, eagles, herons, owls, hawks and vultures.

Vineyard Tours – four Vineyards within 30 mins. One, the best, DuCard, is just over the hill. Superior wines framed by vineyards and Blue Ridge. A rural experience looking up to where our orchards were in the 50's. Living LOCAL

Please ask if we may be able to accommodate this for you, however an extra day's charge will be added if accommodations are not vacated on time.
Deposit Required
Typically a one night deposit is collected on your booking. It is refundable with 72 hour notice or, of course, as Covid needs.
Cancellation and Covid
Full refund if cancellation is at least 72 hours of arrival. Of course, Covid change of plan will always be accommodated.
Two night minimum
During Holidays, Special Events, and Weekends during high season, there are two and three day minimum stays.
Cabins frequently have a two day minimum associated with them and also have a cleaning fee added to the total bill.

The shop is on the ground floor of the Main Lodge, open for check in and check out times and during most days in season. Local goodies, our apple butter, apple sauce and preserves, artwork, games, toys, caps and T-shirts.
